America’s 1st theater! Dock Street Theatre was the first building in America built exclusively to be used for theatrical performances. Since 1937 time took its toll but today, the theater thrives; it reopened in 2010 after a three-year, $19 million dollar renovation by the City of Charleston. Now owned and managed by the City of Charleston, it is home to many cultural institutions including Spoleto Festival USA. Charleston Stage produces over 100 performances each season.
