San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Park • Islamorada

For those that are adventurous and enjoy snorkeling and/or diving, the San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Preserve State Park is a special experience. Consider it a museum at sea! Submerged within the waters are the remains of the 287-ton San Pedro shipwreck; it was part of a Spanish flotilla which sank in a hurricane on July 13, 1733. Her remains were discovered in 1960 in Hawk Channel near Indian Key.  Visitors can explore the massive wreckage, seven replica cannons, an anchor, information plaque,  underwater scenery and marine life.  This is one of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world.
