The Teatro Regio di Torino is one of the oldest opera theaters in existence today. Its origins date back to 1740, the year in which it opened as a magnificent venue of the Savoy Court. Sadly, a devastating fire destroyed the building in 1936.
Undeterred, productions continued across the city until 1973 when the present-day structure opened. It was inaugurated with I Vespri Siciliani by Verdi, in the only stage direction of Maria Callas and Giuseppe Di Stefano.
Today, the Teatro Regio Opera House in Turin, Piedmont, Italy is a prominent and respected performing arts venue. Its season runs from October-June offering Opera, Ballet, and Musical productions as well as concerts involving the Orchestra, Chorus and Children’s Chorus; dedicated shows intended for schools and families; informative lectures, guided tours, exhibitions and special events in collaboration with the City of Torino and institutions like MITO SettembreMusica.
