Shakespeare’s Globe Theater • South Bank, London 2024

SUMMER 2024

Shakespeare’s iconic open-air theatre in the heart of London.

* Check the Globe Theater website below for the current shows.*

Hear the story of the original 1599 theatre, how the Globe battled to survive plague, fire and political oppression, and how one man’s vision saw it rise again after 400 years.

Wonder at the craftsmanship and imagine how thousands of Londoners would once have packed in to see the greatest actors of the day. Every tour is led by one of our expert tour guides, in English, and is suitable for all ages. Information sheets are available in a number of languages.

Open-air theatre with tours in all conditions – dress for the weather!

Watching a play here at the Shakespeare’s Globe is experiencing Shakespeare as it should be, and taking a tour of the theater shows how unique it is.

It was built just a few hundred meters from the original Globe on Park St, one of London’s first established theaters, and designed to resemble the original.

In 1970 America firm director Sam Wannmaker set up the Globe Playhouse Trust to fundraise for a memorial theater.

The new theater opened in 1997, and in 2014 the Sam Wannmaker Playhouse opened, a candlelit Jacobean theater. Take in a play or explore the exhibition space below the theater, which has interesting exhibits about Shakespeare and theater in the 17thcentury, with costumes and props.

  • Editor’s Note: I have toured the Globe theater and attended the “Merry Wives of Windsor”. Great actors – wonderful venue. On my next visit to London – The Globe will definitely be on my itinerary again. Don’t miss it!
