The New York State Museum is a center for art, science, and history dedicated to the exploration of New York State’s rich history in natural and cultural diversity. It was established in 1836 and is the oldest and largest state museum in the country. The collections rank among the finest in several fields, with more than 16 million scientific specimens and one million cultural artifacts. The museum features several new exhibitions each year as well as a number of long-term exhibits. It also offers a variety of educational programs to students of all ages.
