Luminary Hotel & Co. • Fort Myers, Florida

Luminary, by definition, evokes images of inspiration and brilliance!

Welcome to Luminary Hotel & Co. Autograph Collection

Located in Ft. Myers – Only 1 hour from Naples, Florida

Mainsail Lodging & Development is a Tampa-based hospitality company that develops and operates lodging products in the Southeastern U.S. and the Caribbean. Their newest addition is the Luminary Hotel & Co, Autograph Collection. The Autograph Collection Hotels champion the individuality of independent hotels across the globe. Each is carefully hand-selected for their distinct perspectives on design and hospitality, qualities exemplified at The Luminary.

This 12-story, luxury boutique waterfront property on the Caloosahatchee River is undeniably a “bright light” in downtown Ft. Myers. There’s much to discover…

Upon entering the open-concept lobby, you will find that the ambiance is clearly laid-back with an understated elegance. The color palette reflects shades of gray and beige; kissed with metal accents. An antique switchboard, circa 1900, sits next to the reception desk – it was operated by Alice McCann, the 1st telephone operator in Ft. Myers! To the side of the entrance stands Dean Street Coffee Roastery & Retail, The Lobby Bar, and several comfy gathering spaces.

One of the hotel’s most intriguing aspects is exploring the ‘luminary theme’ across the property – lighting fixtures that run the gamut from antique to industrial to contemporary.

THE LIGHTS! I was totally enamored with the details throughout the venue. Step off the elevators to find 2’ tall illuminated floor numbers (see below); espy the brass pipe fixture behind the lobby desk; take note of the interesting chandeliers and tubular wall sconces; and the array in your room. Hopefully, the Luminary team will create a “Luminary Lights” souvenir book!

My recent accommodation was the stunning Grand Living-Dining Suite, a 950 sq. ft.  Presidential Suite with a king bed; sofa bed in the living room; a dedicated dining room (ideal for corporate meetings or private luncheons); 2 well-appointed bathrooms with luxurious toiletries; a fully-equipped kitchen; and a mini-balcony. The windows are floor to ceiling offering vast views of the rive. Every room at the Luminary Hotel offers awesome views and are technologically-innovative.

I highly recommend The Silver King Ocean Brasserie, the hotel’s signature seafood restaurant. “Silver King” is the nickname of the tarpon, the glimmering gamefish which have long drawn avid anglers to the waters of Fort Myers. Borrowing this noble name, the hotel’s signature restaurant offers fresh seafood, classic techniques, and beautiful presentations.

The space is lovely – a large metallic tarpon mural embraces one wall. My personal round of applause to the entire team for the spectacular cuisine and service – the Steak TartareTruffle-Risotto and Truffle-au-Poivre, bone-in Filet Mignon scored a perfect 10.

Around the corner lies the retro-inspired Ella Mae’s Diner with indoor and patio seating, offering hearty classics, healthy fare, and soul-food inspired dishes for breakfast and lunch. Ella Mae’s comfort food serves nostalgia on a plate: Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Fish & Grits; Bourbon Pecan French Toast (delish); and Avocado Toast to name a few.

A visit to the Beacon Social Drinkery Rooftop Bar is a must for sensational sunsets, signature drinks, craft beers, small bites, wine, and live music. The rooftop bar has impressive sunset views. Reserve early – it’s become a favorite of the locals.

The Workshop, is Luminary’s state-of-the-art culinary laboratory. The goal is to encourage guests to innovate, experiment and collaborate in a classroom setting. Alas, there were no scheduled culinary classes or wine tastings during my visit. Check out their schedule of events. You can even host your own private celebrations here with friends and family!
