Art Basel Miami Beach is North America’s most comprehensive international contemporary art fair. An annual fixture during the first weekend in December, “Art Basel” itself is the art fair held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, but is often used to refer to a citywide week of encompassing events that’s now become known as Miami Art Week.
In 2019 more than 83,000 art dealers, artists, collectors and aficionados and more than 268 galleries from 35 countries participated. Art Basel Miami Beach also has more than 20 satellite art fairs such as Art Miami, Design Miami, Scope and Pulse Miami Beach, as well as events ranging from exclusive private parties for wealthy art investors to public happenings.
With the recognition gained from this annual event, Miami has become a year-round arts destination, with a thriving gallery scene; a myriad of cutting-edge art museums; impressive private art collections such as the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, the De la Cruz Collection, and the Rubells’ collection at the Rubell Museum; and vibrant street art second to no other city in the world.
