Dorset Square Hotel • Mayfair, London

This small, luxury 38-room boutique hotel is formed of two combined Regency townhouses overlooking verdant Dorset Square, and is known for its great personal service. Cricket memorabilia in glass cases in the lobby and cricket-ball doorknobs add quirky touches: Dorset Square was where Lord’s Old Ground, a cricket venue, was laid in 1787. The Lord’s Cricket Ground, the “Home of Cricket,” is one of the best locations to watch the English sport.

There’s a comfortable guest drawing room on the ground floor with a fireplace. Guest rooms are bright and breezy with modern, jazzy textiles and snappy designs in modern English style, designed by hotel owner and Creative Director Kit Kemp.

For guests lucky enough to be able to book #15, the room opens onto Gloucester Place. The hotel’s in-house Potting Shed eatery, is highly rated and is great for a pre-or post-match meal.
