The St. Louis Cemetery is one of the many historic graveyards in New Orleans and consists of three individual cemeteries, two of which are listed on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail and the National Register of Historic Places. St. Louis Cemetery #1 can only be accessed with a tour guide. The cemeteries date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and many of the individuals buried there, both famous and otherwise, are in above ground tombs or vaults. This is a unique sight to see, as are the graves of some of the famous people buried here, and a tour offers a glimpse of another interesting part of New Orleans history.
