What has more than 260 acres in the heart of New York’s Bronx Borough and is filled with 6000 animals comprised of 700 species? It could only be the Bronx Zoo. Here, nestled in one of the busiest, most populated parts of the City is by some measures, the largest urban zoo in the world.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s flagship park, the zoo opened to visitors in 1899 and has since created a unique springboard and hub for animal conservation efforts across the entire planet. In 1916, the first modern zoo animal hospital with a full-time veterinarian staff was opened on the grounds.
